WP2: Development of practical eye lens dosimetry in interventional radiology

Specific objectives:

  • Development of a formalism to measure eye lens doses (via the theoretical study of the operational quantity Hp(3) for the eye lens and its practical implementation)
  • Design and development of new practical dosemeters that are suitable to respond in terms of Hp(3) (measurement of eye lens dose)
Activities:
  • To critically study the definition and to numerically evaluate the quantity Hp(3). A complete set of energy and angular dependent conversion coefficients will be provided
  • To develop a thermoluminescence based dosemeter suitable for readout and handling equipment commonly available in existing European dosimetric services. The dosemeter development will include a sequence of the following sub-tasks:
    • Design of several alternative dosemeter models supported by Monte Carlo modelling
    • Manufacture of pre-prototype working models of dosemeters
    • Measurements in laboratory and workplace conditions
    • Production of prototypes of the dosemeters
    • Using the calculated conversion coefficients from air kerma to HT(lens) and the design of a simplified calibration phantom, a calibration facility will be developed
    • Type-testing of prototype dosemeters
