A coordinated network for radiation protection dosimetry, the CONRAD project, was funded in 2005 within the 6th EU Framework Programme. The CONRAD project clearly highlighted some medical applications, where radiation protection is an important issue and where recorded doses can be very high

Taking advantage of the learned lessons and of the technical capacities of CONRAD participants, a new enlarged consortium was created to develop a new Project to improve standards of protection for medical staff for procedures resulting in potentially high exposures. The objective is to enhance both the safety and efficacy of the uses of radiation in diagnostics and therapy. In particular the project proposes to develop methodologies for better assessing and reducing exposures to medical staff
